Pillow Beating – Meditation of the Month

This technique is from Osho. It is super helpful in a situation where you often get angry or where you feel you have issues with suppressed anger. You can do it alone or with a partner.

Alone:

1) Kneel down in front of a big fat cushion.
Clasp your hands and raise your arms and hands above your head stretching out your whole torso as you do so. Bring your clasped hands down on the cushion, shouting NO!!! From your pelvis, which will bring a surge of energy through your entire body. Repeat this at least 10 times.

2) Sit in front of your cushion, with straight spine and closed eyes. Enter into silent meditation, becoming a witness of your body, mind and emotions. 5 minutes.

For best results, do this solo anger meditation each day for 10 days.

In the couple:

This technique was developed by me many years ago out of a need to work through and heal anger patterns with my lover. It is an exquisite way to move through and heal any stagnation and or anger that may be forming in the couple dynamic.

You will each need to collect a flower or leaf in nature and bring it with you to this couples session for clearing anger.

1) Both kneel down in front of a big fat cushion, facing each other. Clasp your hands and raise your arms and hands above your head stretching out your whole torso as you do so. Bring your clasped hands down on the cushion, shouting any kind of swear words and abuse as you do so!!! Shout from your pelvis, which will bring a surge of energy through your entire body. It is helpful to have eye contact with your partner as you both shout. Continue this for 3 minutes.

2) Sit in front of your cushion, with straight spine and closed eyes. Enter into silent meditation, becoming a witness of your body, mind and emotions. 3 minutes

3) Pick up your flower or leaf and silently look at it and as you do so, pour your ego into this flower or leaf. Empty yourself completely of all ego patterns.

4) Lay the flower or leaf down on the floor, and then bow down in front of it, and ask for guidance from higher consciousness for the next step in your relationship. Higher consciousness can be represented by a God or Goddess, an angel, an ascended Master, a Guru or your own higher self. Wait for the guidance to come and trust what comes.

5) When you have received the guidance, sit up and wait for your partner to be ready also. Then, come together into the yab yum position. Whisper in each other’s ear, the guidance you have received.

6) Each of you pick up your flower or leaf, go hand and hand with your partner into the nature and let go of the flower into the nature. This is symbolic of allowing nature to take your ego and melt it down as compost. If you have a running stream of water in your garden, it is also possible to drop the flower or leaf into running water.

This method can be done once in a while when there is energy stagnation or anger building up in your couple.
