Meditation of the Month: Energy!

From the Vigyan Bhairav Tantra: “Roam about until exhausted and then dropping to the ground, in this dropping be whole.”

This meditation is particularly relevant to our fast paced society. In general, people roam about at a very fast pace, going who knows where towards who knows what? And as we rush ever onwards, we rarely stop to wonder why we are rushing so fast. It is an unconscious mechanism of a never-ending feedback loop of stress. I call it ‘addiction to stress.’ Yes, that’s right, the adrenalin rush, which comes with stress can actually become an addictive drug.

In Tantra, we can use anything in life as a door into expanded consciousness, even stress. The secret is to bring awareness to it. In this meditation, you can be inside a room or outside in nature. Begin roaming around and around as if moving towards a very important goal. Go on roaming, bringing your full awareness to the driving force which makes you feel the need to rush and hurry, allowing the stress of this to be experienced deeply.

Go on roaming, until you are completely exhausted and your body simply falls to the ground. It is not you deciding to lay down. To experience the full nectar of this meditation, you need to simply allow your body to drop like a sack of potatoes, plop!

As your body drops, suddenly, and your psyche has no more goal to be fixated on, there will be a sudden shift and detachment from the body / mind. In this way it is quite probable that you will experience a deep merging with your eternal essence, which is beyond both mind and body.

After having such a consciousness raising experience while meditating with stress, it is very likely that you will be able to experience moments of detachment from the adrenal addiction more regularly, and little by little you can finally discover a more peaceful way of life which nourishes your soul.
