Tantra Team member Vincent (left) shares his experience Non-Dual Kabbalistic Healing developed by Jason Shulman, which works directly with consciousness and the knowing that we are all one.
I was reading a quote by the much loved Tibetan teacher – Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche – and it reminded me of the full bodied attitude to healing and awakening that my healing teacher – Jason Shulman – has. So here’s the quote:
“In the garden of gentle sanity, may you be bombarded by coconuts of wakefulness.”
What a wild thing to say; its funny, kind, baffling and bombastic all at the same time.
To me it sounds like a Koan, the Zen stories of contradiction that guide us to a place beyond words. This is very much my experience of the Non dual Kabbalistic healing path that I and my wife Roxana have trained in for four years.
With our minds and egos unhealed there is so much room for misinterpretation and conflict in the world. Even for those of us converging on a spiritual path, there is the danger that we may pave a bypass of our actual human condition towards the goal of enlightenment, and in so doing missing the very point, the crux of being human. The gift of being human and awakening is that we can choose to fully live our lives here on planet earth, to embrace our flesh and bone, heart and soul, mind and ego, desires and suffering.
So what brought me to accept healing into my life? I was 32 and there was a howling loneliness eating and biting at me in the night. Nothing could fill or cover up this loneliness for very long, if at all.
I remember asking Sarita what could I do in the face of these overwhelming sensations of pain, fear and separation – her words were resolute: “Be total with it, go into it completely and it will transform.”
And I did – but not in a thrashing of cushions, the repartition of catharsis or a singular workshop experience. I joined Shulman’s healing school ‘A Society of Souls’ and embarked on a four year programme of profound teachings. For me healing, while sometimes intense and dramatic, has been about a slow burning intent. It is about being held by an on going process, about being with others who are also willing to bare their souls and understand that enlightenment is not an escape, but rather the dispersing of our delusions about what reality is and who we are.
Nondual Kabbalistic Healing (NKH) uses many meditations as a foundation for healing. It uses the Tree of Life as a profoundly alive diagnostic tool whilst also relying on the healer’s own intuition and curiosity. Some modalities work at the level of energy and chakras, NKH goes behind the scenes, so to speak, to the place in consciousness where chakras and energy arise from.
An interesting factor about NKH is that because we are working with non-duality the healer also receives healing in the process. Often times the client will come with an incredibly resonant issue that speaks intimately to the healer’s own life. During the healing, the healer is opening to the divine in the client and because ultimately and intimately the divine and all of us are ONE, then you have to ask the question ‘Who is being healed?’ and ‘Who is the healer?’. Simply put – we are all part of the same whole.
And yet that whole makes room for separation, loneliness, splits and suffering.
Through this healing modality I have been able to open and be excited by the mystery of life, there are moments when love for life beams out and connects me to the everyday ‘stuff’ that surrounds us and supports us. It has allowed me to slow down in my pursuit of gratification like a hungry ghost and supplied me with options rather than reactions.
Connection, beauty, foundation, victory, a sense of place, love, boundaries, mud and light – all have been allowed to sit at my soul’s table and enjoy the feast of life which is this very moment. I wish you well on your healing journey and hope you are blessed with great teachers like the ones I have found.
